I heard many years ago, maybe as far back as 2008, how cellphone usage was linked to a possible increase in brain tumors. Of course that study was disputed by many, especially those in the cellphone industry. As with many studies, it was decided that “more research is needed”. I’m guessing that they are still researching, since I personally have not heard of any new results on the potential risk.
I am certainly not a researcher, nor am I a good example to others when it comes to cellphone usage, but I see less talk/interaction with others and more interaction with our cellphones. I agree that I can add a bible application to my phone, I can easily communicate with friends/family, and I can even contact authorities in case of an emergency. All good things, but what I also see is young and old faces glued to their cellphone screens. I know that I’m old as well as old fashioned, but as a kid, we communicated with actual words, and those words were face to face. We made friends, and I suspect that some of those friendships will last us throughout our lives. I know, I’m just an old guy looking back at the good old days, and thinking they were actually good. I admit that some of those days were good and some were not as good, but us old-timers learned how to communicate, express our thoughts, convey our ideas, as well as come to conclusions that benefited us and others by way of actual staring each other in the face conversations.
I know, this sounds like the rant of some conspiracy theorist, but technology is not always our friend. My conclusion, and I’m sure it requires more research, is that it seems like we are becoming more occupied with our cellphones than we are with each other. I was just told by my brother that one of his friend’s 16 year old daughter has no desire to get her driver’s license. She is happy to “hang out” with her friends over her cellphone rather than meet up with them outside of her comfort zone. I couldn’t wait until the absolute earliest when I was finally able to get my driver’s license. A driver’s license meant freedom!!
I’ve ranted a lot about cellphones and nothing about scripture, but I believe we are instructed through scripture to demonstrate to ourselves and others just how important we are to each other. I’m sure there are those who disagree with my alleged conclusion, but I see where our cellphones can be a distraction away from God’s instruction. Do not misunderstand me, our cellphones can play a huge part in our lives, and for the better. We just need to consider others, and make sure we all feel important in the lives of each other. We do not want others to feel left out, nor do we want that for ourselves. We must love each other and demonstrate that love each and every day of our lives.
The thoughts in this article are just my opinion based on my observations, so I’m leaving it up to you to decide whether or not our cellphones are causing “brain issues”.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NKJV)
24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
