The Gift

I would like for you to take a few seconds to look back over your life. Try to remember some of the really great and memorable gifts that you received. I am sure there is at least one or two gifts that we will remember the rest of our lives. Many of you ladies may recall the time your husband gave you your engagement ring. It would not come as a surprise if you could remember the date he gave it to you, where you were, the elaborate way he gave it to you, or maybe even his heart felt words. As in my case, I seem to remember “If you’re not doing anything next summer, how about we get married.” It would surprise me if many husbands could remember those details, although we might remember how much the ring cost.

I don’t know about you, but I do like receiving gifts. However, I must admit that I make it very difficult for anyone to buy them for me. If I need something, I typically just go out and buy it, which eliminates a gift giving/receiving opportunity. Even though I’m so richly blessed, there are many things that I just cannot afford. There is one gift that even Elon Musk with all his money can’t even buy.

Romans 6:23 NKJV – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here we see that eternal life is a gift from God.

Romans 6:23 NKJV – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Here we see that depending on how we live our lives we can eliminate a gift receiving opportunity.

John 17:1-8 NKJV – 1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. 6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

We’ve been given many physical gifts in this life, but none can compare with what is to come, provided we don’t eliminate ourselves from a priceless gift receiving opportunity.

The gift of eternal life.
